Why and how it works

Marko Bozinovski Foundation

To preserve the memory and legacy of their son, Aleksandra and Riste Bozinovski founded the "Marko Bozinovski" Foundation, with the goal of helping many young people succeed in sports. Especially those who have talent but lack the means to invest in developing their careers.

The mission of the Foundation is to provide children, youth, and people with disabilities a better quality of life and a healthier future through sports.
The projects will be focused on organizing sports activities and events for children, youth, and people with developmental disabilities, with an emphasis on developing sportsmanship, a healthy lifestyle, proper nutrition, and socialization.

Who is Marko Bozinovski?

Marko Bozinovski was born on 11.09.2000 in Skopje, son of Riste Bozinovski - Machor and Aleksandra Bozinovska, née Brestovac, and brother of Anika Bozinovska.

Marko was born and raised in Aerodrom, a supporter of MZT from an early age, and a Vardar fan with a membership card even before he was born.

Marko’s interest in sports began at a very young age – his first toy was a ball, and even before his first birthday, he regularly watched NBA games. He loved watching NBA games so much that his parents had to record them on videotapes so he could watch them during the day instead of staying up late at night.

Although basketball was his first love and never stopped being, as he grew up he developed interest in other sports such as football. His favorite league was the Premier League because he was a hardcore fan of the London club Arsenal and never missed an opportunity to attend one of their matches.

He always found inspiration in sports figures, who undoubtedly had a great influence on his development as a person. His idols were Vlade Divac, Dejan Bodiroga, Kobe Bryant, Novak Djokovic, Thierry Henry, and Lionel Messi. Among the younger athletes, he adored Kylian Mbappé and basketball player Luka Dončić, and he especially admired Marcus Rashford, who used his influence beyond the field to help those in need. He was fascinated by his greatness as a player, but above all, as a humanitarian.

Besides his interest in other sports, handball captured his heart and full focus, partly inspired by the success of his uncle Danilo Brestovac, because of whom handball became a kind of family sport.

During his life, Marko was a cadet and youth national team player, and he spent most of his career in RK Metalurg. Our most beautiful memories are from that time, where Marko met friends with whom he stayed in great relations until the very last day. They were as one, and we, the parents, were like one family as well.

This lasts to this very day. In search of more playing time and the chance to use his potential, at the age of 18 he left RK Metalurg and moved to RK Butel, playing in the Macedonian Super League.

RK Butel was his club where he played until the last day of his short life. There he had great support from his handball family – starting from the players, to the coaches and the professional staff of RK Butel, where he found his mentors and friends who helped him develop into a mature athlete.

The retirement of jersey number 9 and the display of Marko’s jersey in the hall says enough about their greatness. The Bozinovski family bows to them and promises that we will be with them for as long as we exist. Sometimes we will cheer from the stands, sometimes from home, but we will stay together until the end.
